Keon Daniel vies for the ball

Cuban Carlos Francisco (Right) vies for the ball with Trinidad & Tobago’s Keon Daniel (Left) during their FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010 qualifier football match on August 20, 2008 at the Pedro Marrero stadium in Havana. Trinidad & Tobago defeated Cuba 3-1.

Daniel: Hammers trial

West Ham have handed a trial to Trinidad & Tobago international Keon Daniel. The Hammers spotted Daniel during England's friendly clash with T&T in Port of Spain earlier this Summer. Now 21-year-old Daniel has been invited to East London to train with The Hammers with a view to winning a move to Upton Park.

However, Daniel's trial has been delayed until after 20th August - when T&T face Cuba in a World Cup qualifier. 'It's going to be a great opportunity for me and it's one I'm looking forward to,' said the United Petrotrin midfielder. 'I'm not worried as once I get over there I will give it my best and show what I can do.'

United Experience

As a teenager Daniel was handed a trial by Manchester United in 2005 and he is looking forward to returning to England. 'Going over before I started playing for the national team may have been a bit strange but now I'm playing regularly and I have been to England before so this time I know what to expect in terms of the conditions,' Daniel told TTFF Media. 'They [West Ham] actually wanted me to come earlier this month but I couldn't because of the matches we have now leading up to Cuba. So arrangements have been made for me to go up after the Cuba game.

'If things work out for me we also have to look at the transfer deadline which is August 31.'Keon Daniel is one of the most promising young players currently in Trinidad and Tobago, he has been a regular fixture in the National Team in the last year. Keon was one of Trinidad and Tobago's best players in the friendly match vrs England in June 2008. He has scored 4 goals in 14 matches for Trinidad and Tobago from his position of Left Midfielder, 2 of these goals have been perfectly executed free-kicks.

Harrison Bayley signs contract with Glenn Hoddle academy.

Former Reading FC U18s captain and central midfielder Harrison Bayley has signed a one-year contract with the Glenn Hoddle Academy.

The scheme, which is being run by Hoddle, former Blues coach John Gorman, Nigel Spackman and Graham Rix, is designed to offer a genuine route back into top level football for some of the youngsters releasesd by professional clubs. Up to 40 players will join the Academy, which is based at the impressive Montecastillo Resort near Jerez in southern Spain.

Harrison Bayley, who joined Reading Fc as an under-12 player, had captained Reading at every age group whilst he was at the club. He even won the Thomas Eddison trophy for the best player in the Academy in 2006.

Harrison was told in March of this year that he wouldn’t be offered a Professional contract ,and feels that he was well supported by his hometown club. Eamonn Dolan and Nas Bashir both went out of their way to help him find another club. It so happens that Eamonn was the person who told him about the GHA.

However, the Glenn Hoddle Academy wasn’t the first place that the Reading coaching staff had helped Bayley to look following his release in March. Harrison trained with league 2 newcomers Aldershot and played in a few reserve team matches with them, Eamonn Dolan also got in contact with Blue Square Premier teams Grays Athletic and Weymouth.

The 18-year-old felt he came close to winning a contract at Aldershot, who had stated that their policy was only to sign players with football league experience, after he impressed in their reserve team matches.

After spending a weekend in London having a trial with the Glenn Hoddle Academy, Harrison impressed enough to be offered a one-year contract. All the players at the Academy have been released by professional clubs, with Chris Fagan (Manchester United), Loren Maxwell (Watford) , James Simmonds (Chelsea), Andy Plummer (Ipswich Town) and Lino Goncalves(Fulham) amongst some of the players that attended the trials.

Harrison is hoping to make a quick return to the professional game, adding: “Whilst I’m over there, I’m looking to learn as much as possible and develop my game as much as possible too. With the wide-ranging network of scouts that Glenn, John, Nigel and Graham have between them, hopefully I can get back into professional football as soon as possible, whether it’s in England or not.

The training facilities in Spain having been marvellous and i have been very impressed with the level and quality of training so far. In our first match vrs League 1 newcomers, Peterborough United, we acquitted ourselves very well and showed that there are several quality players here at the academy. “I am very grateful for everything Reading have done for me, especially Eamonn Dolan, Nas Bashir , and I’m looking forward to meeting them again somewhere on the Professional circuit in the near future.'
