Portuguese ace eyes Watford F.C. move

The 24-year-old Gonçalo is a versatile player who can operate either in defence or midfield, and is out of contract in the summer.

"It has always been my dream to play in the Premiership," he said. "I like the passion and the physical side of the game. I would give anything to play there."

Of the last two days, spent training with the Hornets, he said: "It has been really good, I have learnt a lot, but I do not feel out of my depth." He featured in Atletico's recent stunning Portuguese Cup victory over Porto, but has spent the last three days training with the Premiership basement club. "It would be great to face Academica in the last 16," he admitted. "But it is more important to impress at Watford."

Gonçalo only started playing as a professional last season, after completing his university studies in Lisbon, and is keen to work as hard as he can to secure a move to England: "I was training twice a day while studying at nights and on my days off," he said. "But now I am just focused on resolving my future."

Proglobal Representation

The player is represented by Andrew Augustus, of Proglobal Sports, and he thinks the player can do a job in the Premiership: "He is very good on the ball and is a decent header of the ball too," he said.

"We hope to find him something immediately, although his club will let him go on a free so we could do something outside the transfer window."
